SCRIPT

17歳の少年二コラスは、学校にも行かず、同居する母アンとも折り合わず、アンと離婚し新たな家庭を築いた父ピエールと暮らしたいと訴えます。こうしてピエールとその新しい妻ソフィア、0歳の息子サーシャ、そしてニコラスの4人で生活を始めることになりました。ピエールは息子を救うため、二コラスに真剣に向き合おうとしますが、、、、思春期の絶望と不安に苛まれながらも必死にもがく息子と、それぞれ悩みながらも彼に向き合おうとする3人の親を描いた親子の物語。お互いを想いながらもすれ違い反発しあう親子の姿は、誰しも自分の経験や親のことを思い出さずにはいられません。

Message from Stage Manager

今年度のStage Managerを務めております。

本日はご来場いただき、誠にありがとうございます。私たちは、8年ぶりの悲願であるGP獲得を目指し、ここまで全力で活動を続けてまいりました。四大は「サークルでありながら、これほど本気になれる場所はない」と私が感じている特別な場所です。ここには、大学生らしいことがしたい人、新しいことに挑戦してみたい人、劇が好きな人、四大の熱気に惹かれた人など、さまざまな動機や背景を持つ仲間が集まっています。上級生も含め、モチベーションの違いがそれぞれの個性となり、時にぶつかり合いながらも共に成長する機会を与えてくれます。

そして、この場所で出会えた仲間は、かけがえのない一生ものの存在です。偶然にも巡り会えた78人とともに「全身全霊」を標語に掲げ、半年間、劇作りに真剣に取り組んでまいりました。

ときに困難な壁にぶつかりながらも、それを乗り越えた一人ひとりの情熱が詰まったこの作品が、皆さまの心に響くことを願っています。

私たちが全身全霊作り上げた「The Son」を、どうぞ最後までお楽しみください。

Message from Director

本日はひとつだプロダクションの公演に、お越し頂きまして、誠にありがとうございます。そし

て、私たちの作品に関わってくださった多くの方々に、深く御礼申し上げます。

何かを伝えたいと思っても、実際にその気持ちを相手に伝えるのはとても難しいことです。多くの場合、伝えたいと思ったその瞬間に、相手がどう受け取るかを考えてしまい、口にすることをためらってしまいます。『The Son』には、まさにそのように素直になりきれない人々が登場します。悲しい時に「悲しい」と、嫌なことがあれば「嫌だ」と言えばよいのに、相手を思いやるあまり、すぐに言えずにため込んでしまうのです。その背景には、相手への深い愛情が隠れています。しかし、その愛情があるがゆえに、言葉を飲み込み、結果としてすれ違いや対立が生まれてしまうことも少なくありません。実生活においても、家族や友人、仲間との関係の中で、似たような経験をされた方も多いのではないでしょうか。この一年間、この劇と向き合い続けた結果気づいたのは、愛しているからこそすれ違いや対立が生じるという現実でした。相手を思いやり、言葉を慎重に選んだ先に、かえって誤解が生まれることがあるというリアルな人間関係の複雑さを描いたこの作品は、私自身にも多くの気づきを与えてくれました。愛とは何か、そして人と人との繋がりとはどれほど繊細で壊れやすいものかを、皆様にも感じ取っていただければ幸いです。どうぞ最後までお楽しみください。

■About Performance

From today's “The Son”, from Hitotsuda, there were really great moments throughout the production. And we wanted to highlight Ashley's natural moments and tender moments. And we also wanted to highlight Hayato's performance. Once again, a short time on stage, but a strong presence.

■About Stage Effect

“The Son”. Your costumes were all very well selected similar to “Proof” but yours really helped us understand the characters and that's important. So, each person had a very different style and it emulated their character, their feeling, and their desires very well. So, good job on that. The makeup. Believe it or not, makeup is hard to get right. We thought the makeup was very subtle, not too much, not too little. So, keep doing that. Good job on the makeup. It does make a huge difference. The use of lighting in your transitions was great. You had some lighting that remained on while you transitioned. If you don't know the word “transition”, google it. And then of course, for me, personally, the favorite detail of the effect was after your dance party which as an audience member it was a very nice light mood, also one of my favorite karaoke songs. So, I really enjoyed that. So, we had this feeling of euphoria, and then Nicholas's realization of being lonely and separated, and the transition music was played just that little bit slower. And I noticed that and it made me feel sad inside.

So that's what you want to do, affect the audience. And you affected me. You made me sad. Thank you, and that's it, well done. Thanks. Good luck.

■About Directing

The director's role is to create and bring to life the world of the play. They take the words from the page and find a way to tell a clear, visual story. So, if we consider "The Sun," this is a very, very difficult story to tell, and to put such an intimate family drama on this really big stage is not an easy task for any director. So, really well done on that particular job, particularly, as a lot of the scenes involve only two people. And the play also takes place at multiple locations. So, the director had to find a way to show this effectively without destroying the piercing of the piece. So, it was indeed an excellent job.

■About General

Hitotsuda took a very big swing, because you took on this almost brand new play in "The Son," with some very, very difficult language and some very, very difficult themes. This would be a show that would be difficult for any professional theater company to do well, but you did it well. And you should be very, very proud of the show that you created here today. Well done.
